The Youth Training Leagues were such a success last fall that the coaches, players and parents requested that we do it again. With that said the MBA staff has decided to make player development a priority in our fall 2012 leagues. All players that play in the league will sign up as individuals. You can still play with your friends, just request that on your sign up form. We still want volunteer coaches to help with practice and games, but the difference is that our staff will run the 30 minute workout each week. We will have all the kids in they gym on game day working 30 minutes of individual and team concepts that will allow each player to develop the skills needed to play the game of basketball at a high level.
During the 30 minute workout the MBA staff will focus on team concepts. (passing, cutting, spacing, rebounding and proper team defense) and individual player concepts (ball handling, proper shooting technique, and one and one moves to create scoring opportunities). On game day we will split the players into teams and play our games with an official and coaches. An MBA staff member will be on the court helping the players implementing what we worked on during our practice session.
We are really excited to be able to reach out and help our younger kids develop and learn how to play the game of basketball properly. We are also looking forward to working with the youth coaches to give them some guidance on helping players of all ages develop a high basketball IQ!! |
